Workshop Details

  • Date: Monday 8th  April 2019.
  • Time: 6.00pm-7.00pm.
  • Venue: Nelson Hockey Softball Pavilion, Saxton Field.
  • Cost: FREE
  • Facilitator: Blair Minton, Player Welfare Officer, NZ Football / Mainland Football.
  • Overview:  Concussion is a serious injury and occurs frequently in New Zealand sport with an estimated 35,000 head injuries per year. 7,350 head injuries in New Zealand are sustained through sport related activity with ACC only receiving claims for 6,250 of those sports related concussion injuries suggesting a high number of cases not being reported and treated correctly. This ACC SportSmart Concussion Education session aims to teach coaches and players all about concussion in sport, with attendees gaining knowledge of;
    • How to recognise the symptoms of concussion
    • When to remove the player from play
    • Referring the player for the correct advice
    • The correct format for return to play.

As well as bringing to life how this injury can occur and how to manage it, all participants will also take home several practical resources on the topic.

  • Who Might Attend? Sports coaches, team managers, parents, senior players, match officials.
  • What to Bring: Notepad and pen.
  • Registrations Close: Thursday 4th April, unless places are filled prior.  Please contact Julie Price after close of registrations as places may still be available.
