INDEPENDENT BOARD MEMBER NELSON HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

Nelson Hockey is the regional body overseeing Hockey in the Nelson/Tasman region. It has over 700 members regionally, and employs 3 staff. NELSON HOCKEY is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity
Due to a recent resignation, NELSON HOCKEY is seeking an Independent Board Member to be appointed onto its Board for a two- or three-year term to align with our constitution. The Board members are volunteers and meet once monthly collectively.
The person being sought will bring all or some of the following:
- The ability to think strategically,
- A commercial perspective, including financial experience;
- An interest or involvement in sport (outside of hockey)
- Previous Management or board-level experience in a successful company or organisation is preferred but not essential;
As this role is independent, it would be preferred if the prospective Board Member has not had a material interest or involvement in Hockey in the last three years.

NELSON HOCKEY BOARD MEMBER
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Aim
To operate Nelson Hockey in a manner that ensures the long-term sustainability of Hockey as a primary sport within the Nelson Region and to foster long term relationships with neighbouring associations.
To have the game of hockey seen and operate as a family sport accessible to all, that encourages, supports and develops all age groups and capabilities.
Objects
To assist with the Strategic Plan, set the direction and priorities for Nelson Hockey, approve the annual budget, financial delegations and functions of Nelson Hockey
To ensure Nelson Hockey complies with all legal requirements.
To monitor and evaluate the performance of Nelson Hockey both in terms of playing numbers but also in prudent financial and management oversight.
To set policies and operational and management performance expectations that will enhance the playing experience and encourage the development of skills and lift playing performance levels.
To define and oversee the management of any risk to the operation of Hockey in the Nelson Region.
To be accountable in the Governance of Nelson Hockey to the Nelson Hockey community.
To set the culture, principles and values of Nelson Hockey
To act in the best and long-term interests of Nelson Hockey and to foster growth within the Hockey community.
To have planning and processes in place for the maintenance of facilities and the replacement of the current turfs.
