Russell Coleman -(passed away)

It is with deep sadness we report that Russell Coleman a former hockey player has passed away.
He played a few years of junior hockey for the Stoke Hockey Club, then his family moved to Golden Bay where he played for a few years over there. In his early 20’s, he re-emerged this side of the hill and played for Federal, where he won multiple championships with them, at this time also representing Nelson in the top division of national tournaments where it was commonly known he was very close to getting full NZ honours. Before moving away from Nelson, he played one season with the Waimai Hockey Club. He spent several years working in Auckland before spending the last 12 years in Australia overseeing ventilation systems at a few “mines” in North Queensland and of late, Tasmania. Russell’s amazing partner, Sue, cared for him night and day since he became ill in February 2021, Russ lost his brave battle on February 1st. He will be missed by all that knew him.
The thoughts of all of us at NHA are with Russell’s family at this sad time.
