VANTAGE BLACK STICKS WOMEN 2025 OCEANIA CUP SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT

Hockey New Zealand is proud to announce the Vantage Black Sticks Women’s squad selected for the 2025 Oceania Cup, taking place in Darwin, Australia, from 4–7 September 2025. The event will be hosted at the MWT Hockey Centre.

The Oceania Cup is more than just regional bragging rights, it delivers automatic qualification to the 2026 FIH Women’s World Cup for the winner. With only one spot on offer, both teams will be bringing their best in this Trans-Tasman classic. For the losing team, there will be an additional qualifying tournament held in February 2026 (location TBC). This qualifying tournament will be the final chance to win a spot at the 2026 FIH Women’s World Cup.

The format of Oceania Cup features a high-stakes best-of-three test match series between New Zealand and Australia. The games are scheduled as follows:

  • Game 1 – 4th September 10.30pm NZT
  • Game 2 – 6th September 4.30pm NZT
  • Game 3 – 7th September 4.30pm NZT

All matches will be livestreamed and available to watch free on TVNZ+.

While we may be inexperienced in parts, the enthusiasm to perform and the strong bonds within this group give us real confidence heading into the tournament. The Oceania Cup is always fiercely contested and well supported, and I hope our players embrace the occasion and play with freedom. It’s also fantastic to see young talent emerging, with Josie set to make her debut.”

NOTABLE DEBUTANT: JOSEPHINE MURRAY will make her international debut for New Zealand. Born in Christchurch, Josephine moved to Amsterdam in 2004 and represented the Netherlands at the U21 level, including a gold-medal campaign at the 2021 Women’s Junior World Cup. Now she brings that experience to the VBS Women.
