ASB 2018 NELSON SPORT AWARDS -SPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR-ANITA MC LAREN (CONGRATULATIONS)

Retiring Black Sticks midfielder Anita McLaren has finished her international career on a high, named on Saturday as Sportsperson of the Year at the 2018 Nelson Sports Awards.

Waimea College product McLaren made the decision to bow out from the international arena in October, after 10 years playing for the Black Sticks.

McLaren was unable to be at the awards on Saturday, but spoke to the crowd in a pre-recorded message.

“This is definitely the icing on the cake,” McLaren said, “I started out my career off in Nelson and now I get to finish off with you guys.”
