Coach Development Opportunities

Both Canterbury Hockey Association and Auckland Hockey Association are offering coaches some exciting development opportunities to coincide with the FIH Pro League games scheduled in their areas over the next few months.

Canterbury Hockey with HNZ are offering a Community Coaches Forum which is open to all coaches, and an Advanced Coaching Workshop for senior Club and Representative coaches.

Auckland Hockey will be hosting a Coaching Conference with World coaching and hockey legends Ric Charlesworth and Warren Busta Birmingham on the weekend March 8-10th at Lloyd Elsmore Hockey Stadium, Auckland.

The Coaching Conference will be delivered to coincide with the 2019 Hockey Pro League matches between the Vantage Black Sticks v Spain Men/USA Women on Friday 8th March and v Argentina Men & Women on Sunday 10th March, with both matches at North Harbour Hockey Stadium.   

This practical programme is aimed at hockey coaches of all levels throughout NZ wanting to increase their hockey knowledge and will be facilitated by Warren Birmingham and Ric Charlesworth, running from a Friday afternoon lunch to Sunday evening match and feature task based learning from the  Pro League matches. 

Programme Cost per individual coach  is $200  for the 3 days. One day options are also available at $75 per day. You will be invoiced and have your attendance confirmed by 27 February.

To register please email ceo@akhockey.org.nz with a YES TO BUSTA and RIC in the subject line and any dietary requirements you have no later than 27 February. You will receive a confirmation of registration email on 28 February. Please note the forum is limited to 100 participants only.

Session 1 Friday Lunch:  Q and A and keynote address with Ric Charlesworth, Warren Birmingham and Jason McCracken – venue – central AKL tba

Friday Evening: Pro League Matches Vantage Black Sticks v Spain Men/USA Women 

Session 2  Saturday at LEP will feature a practical on field session with Ric and Busta with our RPC athletes in attendance/training. Ric and Busta will be Mic’d up and coaches will have an opportunity to ask live questions during the session.

Session 3 Sunday morning you’ll enjoy a session facilitated by Busta including Exercise Physiology with Paul White – Creating and maximising Speed/ Hockey specific fitness, as well as a Hudl Presentation. 

Following that AKH CEO Manoj Daji will facilitate a Creating Team Culture session drawing on New Zealand sports representatives and coaching legends Dipak Patel (former New Zealand Test Cricketer, former First Class Cricket Coach, NZ U19 coach and coach of PNG) and Ant Strachan (former All Black and GM of Auckland Rugby Academy) and an athlete view from a member of the recent bronze winning FIFA u17 World Cup.

Sunday Afternoon will then feature the Vantage Black Sticks vs Argentina Pro League Matches where participants will again need to perform tasks in relation to the first match, followed by facilitated Group Discussion on the game.
