NHA is pleased to announce that Jaron Steffens will start working at the Performance Area at Nelson Hockey Association this upcoming Friday February 19th at our 2021 NHA PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM U13-U15 & U18.

For sure Jaron knowledge and passion for our sport will be a great contribution to the Association purpose of “providing a great sport for life”.

From his role will be responsible for organizing and rolling out development programs for our higher performing players aligning with Hockey New Zealand where appropriate.

Jaron has a very impress CV with a Post Graduate Diploma in Science (Psychology)-Massey University, Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) Open Polytechnic, Diploma of Child & Adolescence Psychology Open Polytechnic Diploma of Teaching MA, Health & PE (Primary)Christchurch College of Education, Holistic Lifestyle Coach-(CHEK Institute USA), Certificate of Fitness Instruction, (Network NZ) and Certificate of Personal Training.

As part of his important sport history he have been involved in many different sport organizations this past years working at Mind + Health, Mi Gym, ACC & SASH, New Zealand Institute of Health & Fitness, Ride Nelson, Evolve Healthy Lifestyle Consultants, AMI Sport and Fitness Centre-(Rangiora), Inclusive Sport Trust and in previous years Nelson Hockey Association Academies, Coaching also many different Hockey Teams at Club, College and Representative level.

As a hockey player Jaron also played at 2017 New Zealand Masters 40+ Team
2016 New Zealand Masters 40+ Team & 2015 Nelson Masters 35+ Team-(National Champions & Nelson Sports Awards ‘Team of the Year’)
2011 – 2016 Nelson Senior Rep, 2010 Northland Masters 35+ Team,1994-1997 Southern Hockey League & 1987-1993 Nelson Age Group Representative.

He also loved other sports as Mountain biking, water-skiing, wake-boarding, surfing, gym training, triathlons& duathlons.

The role directly reports to the Nelson Hockey Operations Manager and sits alongside the Regional Development Manager .
The Nelson Hockey Performance Officer will be responsible for ensuring a high level service is provided to our members and partners. The Performance officer is pivotal in providing a service that meets our current membership and community’s needs.

The position will assume the overall responsibility for leading and developing talent within Nelson Hockey including fostering and leading development initiatives aimed at higher performing level in conjunction with key volunteers and Hockey New Zealand planning and hosting player and coach development clinics for our higher performers.

He will start this upcoming Friday February 19th running our first U13-U15 & U18 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM I from 3:30pm-05:00 pm for U13’s, 05:00 pm-06:30 pm for U15’s and 06:30pm-08:30pm for U18’s.
He will be responsible for managing and administering the Nelson Hockey representative portfolio (from junior representative to Seniors) along with playing a key role in organising and guiding the future development of NHA Performance area.
