Officiating Opportunities in Canterbury – U21, Otautahi Cup, & NHC

I hope you’re all keeping well and enjoying a fantastic hockey season so far!

We have some exciting and fantastic opportunities coming up in Canterbury, and we’d love to extend the invitation to your association.

As part of our commitment to strengthening officiating across the South Island, we’re looking to work more closely with you to ensure officials throughout the region have the chance to be involved in key upcoming events.

Canterbury will be hosting a number of major tournaments, and we’re seeking Expressions of Interest for roles across all officiating areas—including Technical Officials, Judges (scoring and timing), Umpires, Umpire Coaches, and Coach Developers.

Upcoming Events:

• Educare U21 Matariki Tournament – Friday 20th to Monday 23rd June, Nunweek Park
• Ōtautahi Cup – Friday 22nd (evening) to Sunday 24th August, Nunweek Park
• National Hockey Championships (NHC) – Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th September, Nunweek Park & Ngā Puna Wai

We’re using both the U21 Tournament and the Ōtautahi Cup as development opportunities for Judges and Technical Officials ahead of NHC. These events will have mentors and experienced officials supporting our Judges throughout the tournaments. It’s a fantastic environment for growth, connection, and hands-on experience.

We also understand that not every association has had the chance to host NHC or similar high-level tournaments—this is a great chance for your officials to gain that exposure in a supportive, collaborative setting.

Please note: accommodation for these events will need to be arranged by attending officials.
