Tasman Secondary Schools Hockey Championships 2018

  • News

Nelson Hockey hosted this year’s TSS Hockey Championships on the 15 & 16 August 2018. There were 3 teams playing in the Girls competition (although Garin College entered a mixed team so were ineligible to win this grade) and 4 teams in the Boys competition.

The Girls championship was retained by Waimea College after winning both tightly contested games against Nelson College for Girls. Garin College entered a mixed team which saw them dominate one match against each girls team, but the girls fighting back in the other game to draw.

In the Boys side the first match saw a draw between Waimea College and Nelson College which meant Nelson College retain the Wilkens Trophy. Marlborough Boys College travelled across for the tournament and added another layer to the tournament. But the Championship was decided in the last game where Nelson College had to beat Nayland College by 5 for them to pip rivals Waimea College. Nayland College fought hard and were able to keep Nelson College to 3 goals, meaning Waimea College completed the double again for 2018.

NHA would like to thank Sport Tasman and in particular Jeni Thornborough, Ally and Zachs Cafe for feeding the troops, all the umpire’s who did multiple games, and all the coaches, managers and players from each team! We wish those of you going away to tournaments the best of luck!
