U13 GIRLS NATIONAL TOURNAMENT COLLIER TROPHY NORTH HARBOUR OCTOBER 08TH-13TH

The Nelson team had their first game today against a very strong Central Otago. It would be fair to say the girls looked nervous in the warm up and this showed with Central scoring very quickly. Nelson regathered themselves and started challenging Central. Central were a physically strong team and Nelson struggled to push through their wall. Central scored later in the second half after a break out to be 2-0 at half time. Nelson came out in the second half determined to try and stamp their mark on the game but did not manage to finish the opportunities they had. Central scored again off a penalty corner to make the score 3-0. Nelson continued to create attacking opportunities but Centrals quick turn arounds left Nelson scrambling on defense. After multiple saves by goalie Rebecca Harvey Central got their 4th and last goal of the game. The girls worked really hard but were slightly overwhelmed by the occasion and atmosphere we are looking forward to two big games tomorrow against Canterbury A and BOP. The girls are over first game nerves and ready to go.
