2018 NHA COACHING COURSE-WORKSHOP 2 (GAME SENSE COACHING)

Target Groups:
(i) Young people, aged 13-18, who have some coaching experience and have coached on the junior programme for Nelson Hockey in the past and are keen to be considered for a coaching position in 2018.
(ii) Adults who are keen to further develop their coaching skills and would like to learn more about running coaching sessions that are player centred.

Course Facilitators: Julie Price, Community Sport Advisor (Coaching) Sport Tasman and Tamara Morgan, Hockey Development Manager, Nelson Hockey.

Course Details: The Game Sense coaching workshop will have a hockey flavour and will provide coaches with an opportunity to add to their coaching toolbox by focusing on the benefits of player centred coaching. It will explore the coaching continuum, athlete centred versus player centred coaching, effective questioning and teaching games for understanding. An opportunity will also be provided to put theory into practice through the delivery of a short practical coaching session.
Additional Requirements: Any coach who would like to be considered for a coaching position on Nelson Hockey’s Junior Hockey Programme starting on Tuesday 13th February 2018, will be required to attend a Hockey NZ Small Sticks Coaching Award on Friday February 16th from 5.00pm-7.00pm, unless they have previously completed this coaching award. This course will be delivered by Tamara Morgan, Nelson Hockey’s new Game Development Manager. Any young coaches who have not completed Sport NZ Growing Coaches programme are welcome to join us on Saturday February 3rd from 10am-4pm. Please contact Prof.Fabian Amor for further details.
