ASSOCIATION NEWS-HOCKEY NZ-

AN UPDATE FOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATIONS
Happy Monday! Every second Monday we will send out an association Newsletter that contains key information that Hockey New Zealand needs to communicate with you and your members.   This is one of Hockey New Zealand’s main tools which we will be using to communicate important messaging to Associations for their information and action. If we have missed any of your staff from this email then please let us know and we will make sure they are added to our database.
We need your help during the 2020 FIH Hockey Pro League
With club hockey starting back up we are asking for you to please communicate with them and encourage them to promote the FIH Hockey Pro League through their channels.    We have created discount codes for a number of groups which will hopefully entice more of your community to get down to the games. These codes can be used for the purchase of individual game tickets.  Masters Code – MASTERS2020 Club Code – CLUBS2020 Schools Code – SCHOOLS2020   Please also encourage them to use any of the attached digital assets on their social channels to help promote the event, this includes videos, posters etc.  Digital Assets

Important update around HNZ forums
At Hockey New Zealand we have reviewed, based on feedback from many Associations, the range and types of meetings/forums where we all come together and as such provide the following update along with some key dates.

In recent years there has been a range of forums at which we have come together to discuss hockey across our communities including Hockey Leaders, AGM, CEO Group meetings and Community Hockey Forums. In order to simplify this and provide clarity on the purpose of and preferred attendees at each please see below information.   Annual General Meeting – 24th April 2020 The purpose of the AGM is to meet our constitutional requirements while providing strategic updates and a chance to celebrate our collective achievements. This will now run across one day with three distinct parts.   Part 1 – presentations from Hockey New Zealand providing an overview of the year completed and plans for the coming year including any strategic updates and clarifications Part 2 – will be the formal AGM as per the constitution of Hockey New Zealand Part 3 – will be the hosting of our annual awards dinner to celebrate all the fantastic achievement across the community and high-performance hockey.   Attendees vary with key leaders (GM/CEO & Chairs/Board Members) for parts 1 & 2 and the whole hockey community invited to the Awards Dinner.   Hockey Leaders meetings  The purpose of these meetings is to bring together the key leader from each of our 32 Associations, whether that be a paid CEO/GM or a key volunteer in smaller Associations, to discuss/workshop and create alignment across hockey on key operationally strategic matters. Depending on the agenda we may also have a small number of key subject matter experts attend. We will run a session in March and another in July with each consisting of two days and structured to allow the majority of people to travel in and out on the respective morning and evening of the meeting. We have set the first date as the 31st March/1st April in Auckland so please put these in your diary.
National Hockey Conference The purpose of this is to bring together all the key people from Associations who are involved in the delivery of hockey. The conference will run across 2-3 days in early November. It will be structured to allow the whole group and break-out sessions that cover topics areas such as; Strategic direction, Coaching, Umpiring, Participation, Capability development (i.e. governance, technology, facility planning), Commercial opportunities, Talent Development and Performance and Competition Management
Further information regarding each of these will come out in due course via the fortnightly Association News. If you can please start planning for 31st March/1st April in Auckland that would be appreciated, please note the venue is TBC but will likely be in close proximity to the airport.

Balance is Better Regional Forums
CLICK HERE FOR THE REGIONAL FORUM DATES
Please confirm your availability for your local Regional Forum ASAP to tama.jones@hockeynz.co.nz   What is required of you? As a Keep up with the Play (KUWTP) partner we need to Identify and confirm key Association representative/s at each forum by 14 February. Some I have spoken to already but others this may be new. If you are able and willing to support your local forum please let me know directly.   Aligned with the Keep up with the Play initiative where Hockey NZ along with 4 other major participation NSO’s and Sport NZ publicly made a statement of intent that sport must change to keep our young people involved in sport, it has been decided to hold a roadshow to help connect and inform at the community level.
Association representation at forums as part of forum delivery
As part of the delivery of these forums, we would like each Association to have representation on behalf of Hockey during the event. These people will be positioned during the forum to give a brief update addressing how hockey is tackling change to align with Balance is Better philosophy (2-3 min max covering, what the Association has done and/or what they will do in 2020). I will put together a summary of change within Hockey to assist. It is key that this person has a good understanding of the changes collectively being driven through youth sport at the moment and is aligned with these changes. This person will need to be available for the whole forum and a one hour’s pre-brief meeting via Skype or in-person that will be lead by our Regional Consultants.

As a reminder, the purpose of the forums are: To create a forum for discussion. To engage the regional/local sport community leaders to understand the Balance is Better philosophy and the “Keep up with the play” campaign.
To motivate and support subsequent planning of both individual organisation and collective action within regions.
Any questions?

Community Hockey Leaders Inaugural Catch Up
Last year Hockey New Zealand launched a collaboration and connection platform via Microsoft Teams, especially for our Community Hockey Leaders. This was part of bringing to life the recommendations from the “How to build a stronger hockey whanau” at the August 2019 Community Hockey Forum. Invites were sent to attendees of the forum to join the platform so that they could begin to create a sharing network.
To build on this momentum we are kicking off 2020 by having our first video link catch up on Microsoft Teams for this group. This will be an opportunity to say hello, get to know MS Teams a little better and will be the start of our regular video link catch-ups – something that attendees of the forum strongly advocated for.
In the future there will be a specific agenda or theme and topics will also be driven by the Community Hockey Leaders, but the first session is all about getting our people excited about and utilising this excellent collaboration and communication platform to its full potential.
We have scheduled the first meeting to be on 20th February at 11 am via the MS Teams online meeting. All those who have joined the platform should have received an email inviting them to the meeting.
Please feel free to contact Rachel (Rachel.minton-smith@hockeynz.co.nz) with questions you might have. Please could you also make sure your Community Hockey Leaders who perhaps haven’t managed to take a look at Teams yet, or are unaware of this initiative, get in touch with Rachel to ensure they don’t miss out.
