Hockey Happenings from the Nelson Hockey Association Board

The recent AGM of Hockey Nelson saw Diane Proudfoot retiring from the Board having completed three consecutive 2 years terms on the governance Board and almost 30 years on management boards before that.  A presentation was made to Diane on behalf of all the hockey community to thank her for her many years of dedicated service.  The other Board members remain the same with Chris Lock being elected at the AGM to join us. Thanks to those who put their names forward for these roles.

Work is continuing the Long-Term Plan with an expectation that it will be completed within the next couple of months.  The other areas we’ll be focussing on will be financial stability and broadening our funding base and review of the constitution and policies.

On the funding front – we’re very pleased to announce that we’ve received grants of $15,000 each from the Rata Foundation and NZ Community Trust towards wages for our staff.  We’re very grateful to both these funding providers for their generous support and ask that you continue to support and acknowledge them where possible.

Also, we just received $5,000 from NBS and we’re grateful for a generous anonymous donation of $10,000 from a member of the Hockey Community towards the purchase for our scoreboards.

The turf has already been busy this year, but things are set to get even busier as we gear up for the start of the winter hockey season.  We know you’ll all support our hard-working Operations team as they manage the competition and other up-coming events.  It’s not an easy job but they’ll be doing their best to help things run smoothly for all.  They’re your go-to people for any day to day business and the Board is here to set overall direction via the LTP and Policies.  We’ll keep you updated with any developments.  Enjoy the 2018 season.
