2020 is only new the hockey season is well underway, this weekend
the Vantage Black Sticks sides will play their final home game
for 2020 in New Zealand. The National Masters Tournament is well
underway and the action on the turf is continuing to heat
up.

Vantage Black Sticks sides are set to play their final matches
for 2020 on their home soil when Argentina come to Christchurch.
The Kiwis are looking for a massive turnout from their home fans
as we aim to send our teams off well in what is a massive year
which culminates with the Tokyo Olympics in July.

Sam Lane
calls on the Canterbury Hockey Community to get behind the Black
Sticks
Sam Lane is starting to hit his
stride for the Vantage Black Sticks Men, Lane is entering his 64th
test match this weekend when the side takes on Argentina. Born in
Timaru and schooled in Christchurch, Lane knows how important home
support will be this weekend for the Kiwis as they look to upend
the Olympic Champions.

National
Masters Tournament Underway
The 2020 National Masters
tournament is well underway at Ngā Puna Wai and Nunweek in
Christchurch. The festivities in Christchurch have been amazing so
far with plenty of action and adventures happening both on and off
the pitch.

Coaching and Management Course in Malaysia
FIH have announced several FIH
Hockey Academy Coaching and Management courses in Malaysia and
Spain for the upcoming months. These courses, and any future FIH
courses, will be advertised on the Hockey New Zealand Website under
the coaching tab, Coach Education.

The Network is starting to take shape with the appointment of the coaches who will be responsible for the participant development throughout the country. CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE Major Sports Call for Grassroots Action to Change Youth Sport Sport NZ and the five sports who last September published a Statement of Intent to improve youth sport are calling on parents, coaches and administrators involved at a grassroots level to help implement these changes as sports prepare for the upcoming winter season. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION FIH Level One Coaches Courses: Auckland & Christchurch FIH Level One Coaching Course was delivered in Auckland and Christchurch alongside Hockey Pro League. The entry level coaching course attracted 66 coaches from across the country. Coaches engaged in a mixture of turf and classroom activities, with plenty of time to interact and share their ideas and experience with their peers. Coaches were assessed against the Coaching Core Beliefs with a focus on their ability to; learn and create learning environments for players. Coach Developers from the Hockey NZ Coach Developer Pilot and FIH Coach Educators programme facilitated the courses. Local players supported the day, allowing coaches to practice and receive feedback on their coaching. Hockey NZ would like to thank and acknowledge lead coach developers Juliet Dunlop-Fraser, Lincoln Churchill, Emma Phelps and Ben Collier and supporting coach developers Ben Owers, Laura Kingsmill, Pat Barwick, Sandie Mackie, Henry Wong and Jason Butcher. The courses were well supported by Gill Gemming, Oceania Hockey Federation, and Canterbury and North Harbour Hockey Associations and their players. Hockey NZ would like to thank the coaches for their high level of engagement and their investment in their development.
