NCC Information
Nelson City Council recently released a construction tender for the upgrade of the Saxton Road East Culvert (Orphanage Stream)
Once awarded, work is planned to start early 2018 and is expected to span 5 months whilst an additional culvert is installed across the road.
This upgrade is required to convey flood water from future storm events under the road, and thus limit damage to property.
Construction will be completed in stages such to maintain one lane of traffic along Saxton Road East at all times.
Disruption will be kept to a minimum where possible, but traffic delays are likely (particularly on Saturdays)
Preliminary work around the Orphanage Stream culvert will start from Tuesday next week (30 Jan) when Fulton Hogan mobilise onsite.
Next week will involve relocating services, setting up equipment storage areas and establishing Traffic Management controls.
From Wednesday 7th February, expect to see large scale machinery onsite driving piles and earthworks commencing.
Key Dates:
• Access to Saxton Field (via road adjacent to Orphanage Stream) will be closed from Thursday 1st Feb 2018
• Saxton Road East will be reduced to one lane of traffic (controlled by temporary traffic signals) from Wednesday 7th Feb 2018
Please note, the footpath between Saxton Stadium and Saxton Road East will remain open.
Council will provide regular updates as the project progresses, however if you require further information, please feel free to contact me directly.
At this time,Saxton Field access (from Saxton Road East) remains open for the time being.
Due to delays in finalising pre-cast concrete design and relocating services, work will not fully commence until next week.
Revised Dates:
• Saxton Field Access closed from Tuesday Morning (13th Feb 2018).
• Saxton Road East reduced to One Lane (From Tuesday/Wednesday).
