NHA Message from NHA Board
You will by now be aware of the decision taken by Hockey NZ to cancel all Club, School and community hockey until Saturday 2 May. The postponement includes all hockey matches and training activities, including rep and development programmes, community and school competitions and pre-season trials and activities. Along with all the other major sporting codes and in response to recent government announcements and advice from the Ministry of Health, Hockey NZ has taken this action recognizing that the health and wellbeing of our community is paramount.
The Hockey Nelson Board and staff, like you, are devastated at this disruption to the early part of the season and understand that you all just want to get on with it, however we need to acknowledge the severity of the situation and the strict measures that need to be taken to limit harm to our community. For this reason we’ve decided that we’re unable to allow casual use of the turf and the facilities at this time so the Turf will be closed for all use until further notice. In view of the everchanging environment we’re in, we’ll be reviewing this on a regular basis and will advise you of any changes as they happen.
It’s still too soon for us to have fully come to grips with how this will impact the coming season, our programmes, our financial situation and what the next few weeks will look like for the staff. The fall-out effects of this global pandemic will be felt by everyone in all sorts of different ways, so continue to be kind to each other and remember those important hygiene protocols.
