U13 BOYS DEV- GAFA TROPHY REPORT-AUGUST 19th-Blenheim

On Sunday 19 Aug the U13 Dev Nelson boys played Marlborough to defend the Gaffa trophy in Blenheim. After a slowish start Nelson managed to enter Marlborough’s 25 yard area with a more attacking effort and Kurt Ward delivered a cross that Stanley Jamieson deflected past the keeper. Nelson managed to hold onto this one nil lead until Marlborough posted a more determined effort and were awarded a penalty corner before half time. The corner was struck well which deflected off a Nelson defender to fly into the top of the net above the Nelson goalkeeper. The half ended a close fought one all. Nelson started the 2nd half with more vigour and drive and after some good passing, pc’s and shots on goal Cameron Potts slid a ball past the Marlborough keeper. Riley Perrot was unlucky not to score on the post and was only denied by some good displays of goalkeeping. Nelson kept improving in the 2nd half and the score remained a close fought 2-1. Minutes, before the final whistle Marlborough were awarded a penalty corner with no time left on the clock. In a tense situation the Nelson defence managed to clear the ball out of the danger area and win the game in a closely fought contest. Nelson defended the Gaffa Cup once more with sound performances from Cade Heaphy, Hogan Ward, Riley Perrot and Bob Foy.
